About the perils of digital complexity – in UX podcast

Recently, I had the privilige of being invited (again) to the UX Podcast, by the brilliant Per Axbom and James Royal-Lawson.

Our conversation in UX Podcast #145 is a lot about complexity and productivity. I argue that we’re on the curve of diminishing returns, and that we don’t simplify things with digital systems any longer – we use it to be able to do new things.

Some of these are certainly good – but in many cases the complexity they add is greater than the value they bring. And that’s especially true about digital systems in the workplace.

So much of the productivity were actually gained in the early days of digital computing. Today, we need to pull down systems and to return to simplicity – because today’s solution is not sustainable.
